Seats & Harnesses

Having owned three 's I had always considered doing something to tidy up the interior.  In the past I had some seat covers which looked nice and were quite padded (so nice and comfy too), but they didn't fit that well.  So the next thing I considered was getting my seats re-trimmed in leather.  To follow with my theme, I had the idea of having the seats done in black leather and the centre sections done in white.  After having some problems with my back I decided it was about time to look at some better seats for my needs, rather than re-trimming the originals.

Back in August 2008 I started having a look around for bucket seats.  I had the idea of buying some secondhand, so I started looking on eBay.  I thought it wouldn't matter about the condition as I would be re-trimming them anyways.  But soon into my searching I started finding that a lot of the seats were in a really bad way with cigarette burns etc. and going for very high prices.

I kept looking and I found a pair of seats just 8.5 miles away from my house! The seats are Corbeau Forza 2K Sport seats.  They were originally in a Landrover Defender track car, but were only fitted briefly and then removed as the car as they didn't fit correctly with the big rollcage that was fitted afterwards.  They were in fantastic condition and a great colour too, but unfortunately they didn't match my theme.

I took the seats around to a few places to get quotes for re-trimming and some of the costs were well over £600 or £1200 to re-trim the whole interior.  I couldn't justify paying this, so in the end I went to JR Smith in Swansea who did an excellent job of trimming both seats in black cloth.  Best of all it only cost £150! I also had the original logo's covered over and had white Corbeau logo's embroidered into the seats to match the rest of the interior.

Next I had to find some subframes for the seats, but instead of getting universal ones, I preferred to have ones specifically tailored to the .  After some quick research I found a website called Sportseats4u.  I had a look through the Corbeau subframes and found that I could get some tilting and sliding ones.  I ordered these at the cost of approximately £170.

The last thing I needed to find was some harnesses.  After some searching I found somebody selling a black Sparco Torino Harness on a car forum, so I bought this for £30.  For the passenger side I decided to get another black Torino harness, but a friend had told me I could get a quick release one, so I bought one on eBay for around £50.  This harness allows me to unclip the back of it to allow passengers to get into the back more easily.

Here are the pictures of how the seats started out and the finished result.  Enjoy!
